Split announced, cover unveiled

Sotajumala / Deatchain splitIt's been a while since we've updated this blog. For a while everything was moving kinda slow, but now things are getting busy again and soon we can start sharing all the info regarding the album, release date, cover and whatnot.

Instead of putting out a single from this album, we decided to continue our tradition of splits and decided to put out a Sotajumala / Deathchain split. The release date is April 28th and pre-orders are available. One new song and an early Iron Maiden cover from both bands. We chose the song Prowler and started thinking who should we ask to provide guest vocals for this track. And pretty soon it hit us: why not ask Paul Di'Anno himself? It took a while to work out the details, schedules and all that, but in early January when we got the word that it would all happen, it was an unbelievable feeling! And the results? INCREDIBLE!

A different kind of a remix

Sami 'Hannu' Koivisto (from the Teloitus sessions in 2007) So what happened on Monday February 8th? Few hours of sleep and back to the drawing board. We realized there was something wrong with the final mix and Tomi and Kosti headed back to the studio (good thing we were able to postpone the mastering). After listening to the tracks and wondering what to do, we realized that we needed a fresh pair of ears to help us complete the mixing. We asked Sami Kokko, who recorded and mixed Death Metal Finland, but he was simply too busy to jump in on such a short notice. A call to Vaasa and Sami Koivisto said he just so happened to have the time and that he was happy to help. As most of you probably know already, we worked with Sami on the split with Torture Killer as well as Teloitus, so he knows what we're all about. He gave us a rough version of one song in one day and after some talk, it was decided that he would mix the album again from scratch.

Sami: Soitanko huonoon aikaan? Jutellaanko kuule rumpusoundeista? En olis ikinä uskonut, et soittaisin sulle ja kysyisin tota, mutta…
– Sami calls Timo: "Did I call at a bad time? Listen, let's talk about drum sound… I never thought I'd call you and say that, by the way.

On Friday the 12th we sent all the files to Vaasa and Sami started mixing the album. His mission is simple: To present his vision how this album should sound, get our feedback and complete the mixing. This means re-amping the guitars and bass tracks, tweaking the drum sound, making sure vocals sound good... the whole nine yards.

Mastering has been set for the last week of February, so Sami has a good week and a half to wrap everything up. We're at the FME next weekend and the plan is that we would have the final mix with us there, so that fans could listen to it at Cobra's/Levykauppa Äx's booth. We'll keep you updated!
